Driving in Italy

In Italy, the law requires that all vehicles carry high visibility vest(s) and that they must be carried in the passenger area of the vehicle in order that in case of an emergency, they can be put on before even opening the door of the vehicle.

  • Every car, van / truck etc must carry one warning triangle.
  • The high-visibility garment must conform to EU standards EN 471 or EN 1150, in order to conform with European Directive 89/686/EEC
  • The triangle must conform to EU standards, evidence for which is the stamp E 27 R
